Deer

Tonight I was coming downhill to a blind curve (about 25 mph), looked up with a car coming towards me and a deer in my lane. Car ends up off his side of the road, the deer goes back and forth until he gets out of the road. I lock up the brakes, fish tail quite abit but keep upright until the deer gets out the way. With the sun going down sooner, and us riding in more the twilight, be very carfeful of the deer and make your self visible to cars.

Glad you are safe and sound. I try to do group rides but even then stay alert. Deer can be deadly.

Yes, happy it turned out ok!
Sounds like quite a scary situation and happy that everyone is still in one piece! My friend Colleen and I went for a ride last night and also had a doe run out in front of us. Luckily we were on flat ground and coming to a stop sign at Leetown Rd, so going slow enough to avoid hitting her. Pretty amazing to see the flash of red-brown and hear the hooves hitting the pavement right in front of you! 'tis the season, and we should all stay alert around woods and corn fields.

Yeah, as a long-time motorcyclist...
...I can tell you that I'm a LOT more afraid of deer than other cars! The good/bad thing is they're generally most active during what we call the "Deer Witching Hour" which is the last hour of daylight before sunset...but of course that's when we usually ride! I try to avoid motorcycling through deer country just before sunset, which stinks because it's a beautiful time to ride.

Glad you're safe, Jay.
Glad you're safe, Jay. Rachel and I have been riding the C&O Canal and had a semi-close encounter with a deer. It was about 100 feet away, but still enough to startle us. We've had a few close encounters with birds, too!
Stay safe!
