Anyone have a tool for removing external BB bearings?

SWriverstone's picture

(This question is mainly aimed at Jeff Brandenburg, LOL...but just in case anyone else has one...)

Does anyone have a special wrench for loosening/tightening external bottom bracket bearings like these:

The bottom bracket on my mountain bike is creaking like crazy and driving me INSANE!!!! It's definitely NOT the pedals or the chainring bolts...so it's got to be somewhere in the BB (maybe some dirt or rust or something?)

So I'd love to disassemble mine and give it a good inspection and cleaning, and see if that makes a difference.

Having a bearing removal toolset like this would be helpful too...

Thanks!
Scott

PS - Jeff, if you feel up to helping me do this, I'll happily buy you a sixpack! :-)

Yep, I sure do have that one

Yep, I sure do have that one also. I'd be glad to help. We have a bunch of stuff going on this week in the evenings, when is a good time for you?
And yes I do work for barley pop.

Anytime but this weekend...

Hi Jeff—you may recall me whining about the creaking noises when we worked on the derailleur (and you might have noticed them yourself?).

They haven't gone away, and might be a tiny bit worse. I could be wrong...but I'm 90% convinced it's *something* in the bottom bracket...

I'm heading out of town for the weekend at noon Friday...so just let me know when/if you have some time on any evening this week or next.

Thanks!
Scott

That sounds good. If you

That sounds good. If you aren't taking it with you this weekend you can drop it off any night this week and Ill take a look at it.

Thanks!

I'll give you a call when I can bring it by. (We're taking the road bikes with us, but the MTB stays here, so no problem.)

Yes

I have that tool. Scott

Thanks Scott...

...I'll probably use Jeff since he's closer. :-)
