Classic and Vintage Forum..

OK, I know I'm not the only one that has a soft spot for the forgotten classics. Let's start a forum for the good old lightweight steel out there. Or as in the case of my Schwinn LeTour, not so lightweight.
I just picked up a 1986 Peugeot PH501 Ventoux from a co-worker. It has the 501 Reynolds steel frame and fork and looks to be all original including the white leather straps for the toe clips. It weighs in at about 22 lbs. It will be a nice ride once it is restored and cleaned.

I love the old steel. My Le Tour still has the original steel chrome wheels. They remind me of an old set of Cragars on a 72 Chevelle. I'm going to return the PH501 to original condition. It really won't take much. I'm constantly watching the thrift stores and yard sales for road bikes that need to be returned to the road.

I remember back when the Le Tours JUST came out!!! I wanted one REAL bad.... too much money for a kid in junior high though!!!
I STILL have my 1973 Peugeot UO-8!!! Bought in 1974 for $15 after the original owner crashed it into a parked car... taking out the front wheel & forks. The wheels and gears have been replaced over the years and I've always wanted to return it to original condition. I recently found an identical parts bike on Ebay with the original Rigida wheels and Simplex gears. Just need the time to work on it. Hope to be out riding it this Summer!!!
I also picked up an old Schwinn Paramount from a yardsale for $25. It had been left out in the rain for a few years and needs pretty much everything.... but it's much lighter than the Peugeot and should be a fun Winter project!!!
Good to see I'm not the only one without a "new" bike!!!
